Most of Wrexham Town centre is empty.

Why dump the problem on the Industrial Estate?, the people based there have enough to deal with as it is; and have to pay to deal with it themselves.
The last time the Police managed a regular presence on the estate, the local businesses received a “begging letter” from NWP asking for donations from business to cover the cost of patrols. After paying how much in business rates?

Maybe the Groves could be donated to the WAG (like the prison site was), WCBC could then build a fence around it (like they did at the prison site), WAG will probably take all of ten seconds to find a way around the “education only covenant” on the site.

If it is necessary to give these people food, shelter, and keep them occupied during daylight hours, whilst supporting them in rehabilitating their lifestyle; maybe we should consider re-opening the old red brick building at the end of the hospital, the one that was next to Cobden Mill.
That used to be a “one-stop shop” for the neady.

Agh, you’ve fallen into the trap of getting fixated on then “prison” suggestion (I even counselled against that in my post). That was just an example – could be anywhere out of town.

Your Groves suggestion is awful – that’s still the town centre so doesn’t alleviate the problems.
Excellent suggestion. Better than just closing a blind eye to it anyway.

Thanks. Sometimes the obvious solutions are the best.

Whilst it won’t necessarily solve the homeless / drug problem (although having the various services co-located might actually help) it does avoid it from causing the secondary avoidable problems of visibility of it harming the town centre.

As I said, there may be an economic side benefit of freeing up valuable town centre property, and using government owned land (e.g. around the prison) instead.

They’ve apologised and said that they’re going to look into the cause of it, not sure what more they can do. Accidents will happen.

Well that’s ok then. A danger to health to the local community, safeguards supposedly in place to ensure this type of thing could NEVER happen, but it just did. However, they’ve apologised, so everything is fine, just carry on as you were.

Would you be saying the same thing if a similar event happened at Sellafield ?

“I know there’s been a leak of nuclear waste which has rained down on the local community but they’ve apologised and accidents will happen……”
Lol, hardly the same thing! Safeguards are also proportionate to the level of danger and a bit of wood dust is hardly the same as a nuclear fallout! 😂
It was like the land of the living dead yesterday around town, it is getting worse by the week something is attracting them to Wrexham.

I’ve spoken to many – it’s a combination of factors making Wrexham a Mecca for these types:

– Wrexham still has good, and improving, services for drug addicts and homeless whereas neighbouring areas have generally being cutting theirs due to lack of money available to their councils
– Unlike other areas, Wrexham has concentrated their services in the town centre, making it a really handy “one stop shop”
– Safety in numbers – like minded people gathering together
– Government welfare cuts drastically increasing the number of homeless people – this affects all areas of course, but is a conscious policy decision by the government
– The fantastic Groves facility – most councils don’t allow this type of thing – coupled with donations from the generous Wrexham public of food, clothing, tents, etc. These people are generally not very good at budgeting so these donations really help their benefits go further so they can enjoy “a little bit of what they fancy”

Like it says on the article above, when people are coming out of the new prison, if they have nowhere to go back to, and the council won’t provide them with housing this campsite provides a good place for them to go. Not sure what else people expect them to do

How long will this situation last? I seems to me like they are there for ever.
Our councilors need to grow a set of balls & hoof them off

Another tent today, where are they coming from (the tents) they look new, mountain warehouse ??
Donations from the very generous Wrexham public. Need to keep the donations coming though as others are looking to move into the area – other Councils aren’t willing to provide such a facility.

Ooh, wonder if that’s the Rhyl lot that we’re on about relocating there? Keep the donations coming Wrexham!

What gets me is, the Government found homes quickly for the people made homeless by the Grenfell Tower disaster but yet they can’t do the same for people like these that have been homeless much longer. It a disgrace.

It’s brilliant that the Wrexham public have embraced homelessness and this camp – all the donations of food, clothes, etc being given is fantastic. I have some homeless addict friends in Rhyl who say they don’t get anything like that up there, just get persecuted and moved on by the authorities. They are now thinking of “relocating” to Wrexham in fact! Well done Wrexham.
