Really Nen? All services are competing for scarce resource and WCBC have to determine whether the Arts gets a slice of the pie at the expense of something else. This is actually how it all works.

I know that. But if you judged every culture decision on a financial basis you’d never have any libraries, public art, statues, museums, etc.

A library or a new school? The public will want the school. A statue or another nurse? You get the gist.

If you live near one of Europe’s largest Industrial Estates you have to get used to development.

Hopefully they can get Manics to do a gig for it like in Cardiff!

It amazes me how Wrexham Council seem to be able to reduce everything down to money – some things (like arts, culture, etc) are more important than pound signs.

I don’t see what all the fuss is about Groves – the building is an eyesore now. I can only think that it’s nostalgia from people who went to school there and don’t want that taken away.
QUOTE : I would appreciate a response as to how my 78 year old mother without the internet can gain access to the same information as her neighbour.

I will tell you how Carol, with a daughter like you she won’t miss a flipping trick – or she can ask her neighbour!!

People shouldn’t be reliant on others otherwise it erodes their independence.

I think that sadly a lot of people fail to see the bigger picture of inward investment into the local economy and better services (both private and public) that will follow new housing and just focus on preserving their “view”

With all these extra houses to be built in Wrexham I’m sure that plans are being drawn up as we speak for new schools, a bigger hospital and better transport links like electrification of the railways and, inevitably, the widening of the A483 to three lanes.

Thanks Carol – I look forward to seeing the response!

I see more and more of these types of services moving online – they are sold as being “so much more accessible” or “improved services” – which is great for us tech savvy people but I fear that the elderly or others without Internet access are becoming increasingly marginalised from services.
I absolutely agree. The Arts should be self funding or cease, just like any other business.

In the year 2013/14, the Royal Opera House received £25,787,567 from the Arts Council ie; you and I.

Despite being a Conservative voter at the last election, I have to ask, why are we wasting money such huge sums of money like this in a country where sections of society rely on food banks?

If sports such as Football and Motor Racing can raise huge sums of private capital and be self-funding, why are The Arts such a sacred cow?
Come on pal, arts, museums, etc will never be self-funding – there’s just not the demand for it (like there is for formula 1 or football). It has to be funded by the public purse for the “greater good”

I don’t think I’ll bother with this, the current box is fine.

In fact, what was wrong with the old system where you put everything in one bin round the back and the bin men carried it out to the lorry?

If the council want to recycle, they can go through it all, I’m not paid to do that!
