I and no doubt a few others remember the old Clwyd County Council, and in my opinion there was not much wrong with it. I presume that if we were to revert to Clwyd that the old District Councils would be revived also.

No that’s not what the report is saying at all. Local government would remain single tier so it would simply be a merger of two councils with existing activities (less about £100m combined savings of course). It’s not like the old Clwyd scenario, there would be no separate Borough Council although there would be community councils. It seems to suggest the quicker the better so no new boundaries and a simple change of name (Wrexham & Flintshire North East Wales etc). Locations would be for discussion so maybe you might get one or two departments based in Wrexham with local services (refuse, streetscene etc) and local delivery (e.g. Social services). But presumably there would be fewer councillors so wards would be a lot bigger and would need to merge. Probably long overdue but it does weaken the localism of democracy – if anybody cares!

The return of Bob-a-job – fantastic! Although a “bob” won’t mean much to anyone under 50. Come to think of it a “job” is an alien concept to a lot of people nowadays. Good luck.

No not consultants but maybe some department from the Welsh Office

The Welsh Office doesn’t exist anymore. The Wales Office represents the UK Government in Wales and vice versa. So even if what you propose were ever likely to happen it would be Welsh Government, God help us.

WXM :- I agree debate and scrutiny committees are no doubt costing the community millions each year. One problem in WCBC is that it takes several meetings before anyone can, or will, make a decision.Take meetings out of WCBC and you will require at least 15% less staff. They seem to go from one meeting to another.I had reason to make a complaint to the council and it took 1 week before a room was available to meet the complaints officer, and then I was given I hour in which to put my case.It is the top level officers that decide on redundencies, they will not put themselves out of a job.It needs looking at by an outside source.

An outside source? What, like consultants?

Watch out for claims against the council from people who can’t walk down a street without falling over something. That giant ashtray is a trip hazard if ever I saw one.

Not really a surprise as it’s been on the cards for years. Ambitious plans for Plas Madoc Leisure Centre, Wrexham – Chester Chronicle

I might be wrong but I think Plas Madoc was built by the old Wrexham RDC which is why the area has two large leisure centres, because what is now Waterworld was built by the old borough council to replace the Tuttle Street baths. It was also the RDC who signed the original twinning agreement with Kreis Iserlohn in March 1970 (see separate thread). So not really a post war peace initiative unless you’re from the Basil Fawlty school of Anglo-German relations.

I imagine the counters will read zero once the parking charge increases come into effect. An excellent investment :).

Point of order there Liam. Wouldn’t the signs only say zero if the car park is full? And thanks to the signs I now know that the Welsh for full is Llawn. So they are at least educational, albeit in a limited way.

Where did the £500k figure come from? Why does it have referred to as “the rumoured £500k”. Either it’s true or it isn’t but no point in getting all hot ‘n bothered about it until its confrmed (or not). Just saying.
