DRParticipantWe met up with Inspector Mark Williams earlier on today and showed him some of the issues raised on this forum. A write up will be online tomorrow (along with some other crime news!) Inspector Williams also mentioned he might join the forums to answer some of these comments /queries as well :D
DRParticipantI popped down to the police station shortly before the bubble match and had the chance to have a tour around the building. Most of the top floors aren’t used anymore, and was quite odd to see the state that the upper floors are actually in. Roof tiles have fallen off, there was dust and insects everywhere and generally weren’t a great condition due to the fact that they could no longer be used to work in.
It was also mentioned that when it’s windy, the top part of the building moves. Think it was mentioned that it was built to manage / for the wind, however it doesn’t make it any easier when things are moving across the desks apparently!
However, it is an amazing view from the top few floors!
With the Groves building having recently been demolished, would change the landscape drastically if the police building was knocked down as well. Would be strange to sort of look through like that, especially having grown up in wrexham and knowing it as a somewhat ‘iconic’ landmark.
DRParticipantI disagree that Wrexham.com wants to be opinion based, as there is no pushing of personal or political views in that piece. If it was bias then the survey wouldn’t have been linked, no reference to the story would have been made. Neither would referencing various councillors payments, including the council leaders. The accompanying tweet on how to save nearly a million pound wouldn’t have been sent.
Sadly the point of there being so much money available if the councillors gave up their perks has been lost.
As has been mentioned previously, there is a right to reply on these forums. Which is the wxm.com equivalent of a letters page in some sense.
Perhaps while Rob is on the phone to the council to see if he can cut and paste information, he can ask why only 5% of councillors only reply to emails that aren’t from the Post or the Leader and sort out the media bias? And arrange a Skype call with all councillors to find out their attendance of meetings, to prevent any more accusations of bias?
But as Rob has mentioned, if that’s bias then there’s a great feature coming up. That’s if you’re still reading and commenting on a site with no credibility of course ;)
DRParticipantWe’ve spoken to a couple of traders who pointed out they had an increase of footfall yesterday. One comment in particular said it would have been nice if the ‘beach that wasn’t a beach’ could have had stalls or activities throughout the town centre as well, to help generate even more footfall. Comments seem to have been very positive, and the library field was cleared up by about 6:50 last night!
DRParticipantIt’s back live now, I took it down because too many pieces went live at once, so rescheduled it for a bit later on.

DRParticipantIt was a shame it closed really, generally people seem quite excited to see it coming back.
Another good point is, it’s another shop on that row that’s going to be occupied! A furniture shop opened in the old Boots store just a few days ago. And obviously Un Deg Un has taken over JJB with the art gallery. Good to see a couple of the empty shops in the town centre being filled.

Such as yesterdays thrilling mini story: ‘Woman Took Meat’.
DRParticipantThe proposal has been put forward by Matthew Jones Architects.
This is the link their site, hasn’t got an image of the proposals for Wrexham, but gives a vague idea of their style of design and building: RIBA Architect North Wales | Conwy | Anglesey | Gwynedd | Denbighshire | Matthew Jones
DRParticipantQuote from the council report regarding Marford community centre: “Whilst the facility is well used, it is mainly for non-statutory childcare which can be provided in the private sector. A similar facility exists at the Marford School. Other uses could be accommodated at other local locations. The building requires significant investment to be brought up to modern standards.”
If you want to have a read further, the council report is up for tomorrow’s meeting. Nice little chart break down on the last two pages showing how the buildings are sustained: https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/MinutesData/HomesEnvCom/Reports/HCWD2513.pdf
