End of the day, if the majority of folk speak either English or Polish, and all speak one of the two, it doesn’t matter if a dead language is included.

And it is a dead language; if you have to enforce its use by act of parliament, it’s dead, or dying at best.

    See also: French.

    What utter tripe

Welsh, Polish, what’s the difference? I bitterly resent every penny spent on the Welsh language when the waiting list to see the pain clinic is 52 weeks. I also bitterly resent the inference that just because you don’t speak Welsh you are not Welsh. The Welsh Govt caved in to the Taffia and is turning this country into a waste land.

    Nonsense

    What’s nonsense?

That there is a 52 week wait for the pain clinic? That’s more than nonsense it’s a disgrace.

That the Welsh Gov spends millions on the Welsh language which only benefits a tiny minority of the people living here? That’s more than nonsense it’s a disgrace.

That the Welsh Language Commissioner has made such restrictive laws that small businesses and charities will be forced to leave Wales? That’s more than nonsense it’s a disgrace.

Since devolution the education, health and infrastructure have all gone down hill. The blame is set firmly at the door of the Welsh Assembly. They have chronically mismanaged every facet of life in Wales to a point that it’s impossible to get necessary health care, a decent education or run a business.

The last census showed that there had been an 11% drop in those speaking Welsh so what does the Welsh Gov do? They throw more money into promoting and enforcing the Welsh Language.

The majority of people living in Wales, and those who count themselves as Welsh want to speak English, I thought we lived in a democracy not a fascist world of a National Socialist party catering for a minority.

The WAG truly are astonishing, in addition to the above, we can add spending £500,000 to pay the organisers of 2015 British MotoGp to be held at Donington Park in Leicestershire.
This in addition to £2m already paid as part of the deal to become the home of this race from 2016 onwards.
At a track that hasn’t been built yet, may never be, with the hope of bringing 6000 jobs into a deprived area.
Most importantly the other investors needed are yet to be confirmed.
Welsh Government accused of secretly funding Circuit of Wales scheme – Motorcycle news : General news – Visordown

If the WAG actually looked into the reality of the economics of running a motor racing circuit or of hosting MotoGP, F1 etc its well documented that what is hoped for in terms of jobs, economic benefits, tourism etc rarely meets expectations.

All this a time when they have NO money to support libraries or leisure centres.

    Absolutely shocking.

It would be a very sad depressing world to live in if there was no beauty, no art, no green fields, no debate & no children playing. I felt that the initial post was more about the fact that the Polish language was given more priority in a Welsh school than Welsh language. Is that right? The Health Service should be above party politics.

That seems to be the case, but having worked at the school there are a lot of Polish children there. I regularly heard Polish being spoken but never Welsh except in a Welsh class.

    To the negative posters,

The welsh government spend millions and millions of pounds on a whole host of frivolities so why single out our national language?

There are plenty of people who speak Welsh around Wrexham and welsh speaking schools are full to bursting point with some parents unable to put their children in to these schools due to lack of places. That does not sound like a dying language to me. We should be opening more Welsh speaking schools to cater for the will of the country’s people.

In a Welsh medium school I expect that it would be the other way round where Welsh is spoken in the playground but you wouldn’t expect the children not to be taught English too. Fortunately we don’t now use the Welsh Knot.

I think we can all appreciate that the NHS is not up to scratch, but nobody can seriously believe that cutting spending on the Welsh language would equal any improvement in the NHS.

What proportion of public debate has been spent on the NHS in the last couple of decades, and Welsh language in the last couple of decades
