This is a good account of what is proposed with regards to the power station.
No it’s not a good account. It’s wrexham power’s proposal. There’s a big difference.

JojoParticipantWhen will Wrexham Power meet with local residence to answer questions that we’re asked over a year ago?
When will Wrexham Power meet with the local school of is-y-coed and explain to the children why they will be better of with a monstrosity of a building throwing out god knows what emission, than to continue seeing cattle grazing and wildlife flying by?
It’s not progress

welshrabbitParticipantSo, the Daily Post brought us news from Wrexham Power Ltd last week that they are going to be consulting with the good folk of Wrexham (at last) in the ‘New Year’, with regard to what they see as being an excellent investment for us, however, the have also admitted that they are “a long way off submitting any plans to the council”. It’s my view that they might have woken up and smelt the coffee, it’s been clearly demonstrated to them that we don’t need and don’t want a Power Station of this sort here. From what I can gather, there are only five full time employees in Skelton Group Investments, the Company responsible for incorporating Wrexham Power Ltd. They’ve got their hands full, they’ve recently started two new (Power Station) projects at Meaford in Staffordshire & Killingholme in Lincs. There’s obviously good money to be made otherwise they wouldn’t be speculating in it.

Bill TParticipantIt is good to see some challenging arguments being made on this subject. The common ground is that we all want Wrexham to be a good place to live in with thriving local businesses and more employment. What none of us want is the area to become more run down or spoilt.
The developers behind the power station proposals are putting their ideas forward for no other reason than so that they can make a lot of money. They are even based offshore so they don’t pay so much tax. Of course they have dressed the idea up to make it sound appealing, but the facts are that there is no need for a standard big gas fired power station here.
The economic and climatic difficulties in the world demand innovative solutions, maybe it is more difficult, perhaps less profitable, but for the sake of us all we should resist a simple quick fix that will only make a few property developers rich.
We need to encourage these developers to modify their ideas and put forward something that is good for Wrexham. A smaller scheme could employ just as many on a smaller plot, if they design their scheme properly they could supply electricity directly without the expense (and visual blight) of routing electricity to the National Grid and back. They could offer steam to businesses on the estate so that old boiler plant could be shut down. If they did that, not only would there be economic benefit to businesses but emissions would be less and their proposed power station could be 90% not 60% efficient.
As we all look to the future we want to see a responsible approach to using limited supplies of gas and to do what we can to reduce CO2 emissions and other pollution.
Ideally the location of any power station would be more central to the industrial estate, the perimeter is best suited to warehousing and distribution as the existing planning consent anticipated. Perhaps a smaller scheme could be located next to the proposed prison and supply their heating needs, retaining the proposed site for possible employment of much greater numbers.

b-f-cParticipantThe problem with any power station that gets permission there, is no matter how green or small it is on the planning application now, there is very little to stop it being developed into a larger station. ‘Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile’

welshrabbitParticipantCan’t help but wonder if there’s a bigger plan, what with a GAS fired Power Station, Fracking & drilling for methane, perish the thought!
