I wonder when we will hear about the Estyn inspection report on Rhosnesni High School. Inspection schedule – Estyn

Thanks for the link. I have read some of the other reports, very surprised. These failings take years to manifest, they don’t happen overnight. The boards of governors should be coming out in public each term and saying what they are doing to support the teaching team, and best use of budget, surely.

BBC News – 'Cut a third' of 22 education services in Wales, report says

If they do decide to reduce the number of local education authorities from 22 to around 14,look out for the reformation of Clwyd Education Authority representing Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire. How long in fact before the three county councils disappear all together and become Clwyd County Council , all done as a money saving venture!!

Will bigger be better? The current model is not working so will the new one bring improvements.

The case they were putting on the news, was that bigger education authorities have a more experienced team, and a broader and deeper set of skills than a small one. It would hopefully lead to less interest by politicians on a day to day basis, and let experienced inspectors work with teachers on the ground. I’ve mentioned before that North Wales seems to be an appropriate size in population and budget spend to manage education …but there could well be a split of opinions between communities. The push for academy and free schools is also interesting.
