So far it appears there are only four Manifestos that have been published and shared – Conservative, Labor, Plaid Cymru and Wrexham Independents. Not seen any for Lib Dem, Greens or the current Mark Pritchard led Independents.

Reviewing what they have included is interesting – some being quite detailed and others only half A4 sheet so extremely limited.

If you look at some of the key topic areas that affect all residents and how they are covered some of the manifestos just don’t seem to be relating to local needs.

Looking at key words references gives an overview

    Plaid Conservative Wxm Ind Labor
    Education 13 1 0 0
    Young People 6 3 1 1
    Social Care 2 3 1 0
    Health 26 2 1 0
    Covid 1 2 0 0
    Economy/Town 5 2 1 1

Variations in the number of references is due to the size of the documents but is it acceptable that parties that have a Zero against key areas-

Perhaps there are some key questions for the public to ask their local candidates.

The Mark Pritchard Independents Manifesto is more than likely to be shown in picture form. Watch this space.

I won’t be voting for anyone who doesn’t respond to the Wrexham.com election questions.

So far only two have bothered in our area. One looks like they would have trouble sorting socks and the other lives in cloud cuckoo land. Both are making promises to solve Wrexham problems but just in their area.

The one with the best literature hasn’t bothered yet, so i won’t be voting based on a well thought out statement of intent.

PS We have postal votes so the candidates better pull their fingers out of butts and get on with it

Of the present nine members on the Executive Board that are seeking re-election. Only three have to date replied to the Wrexham.com questionnaire, Councillors Bithell, Griffiths and Pritchard.

Could it be that Councillors Sonia Benbow Jones,Terry Evans, Hugh Jones, Bev Parry Jones,Phil Wynn and Mark Pritchard are finding difficulty in finding answers to the questions? Given that in the past five years, they could have possibly done more than they did do.

What really grips me after reading the majority of the responses to the questionnaires completed is how parochial the responses are.
They focus on what they promise for their ward but generally fail to go into any depth as to what the would do for Wrexham County Borough as a whole. Platitude after platitude.

Also interesting to note are the responses from Independents. Some quite clearly indicate that they are willing to join a ‘group’ with other Independents (why not call a spade a spade and be up front and admit that it is a party by any other name?)
I am also totally unconvinced that those who maintain the free spirit approach will do so for long ,if elected.

I think we need to get back to recognised party politics where there is an effective opposition who question and challenge rather than the coalition of ‘like minded’ Independents who, rather than being that, follow the ‘group’ line.

One only has to look at governance in the County over the period of the current administration, to see that it just doesn’t work – neither here or anywhere.
