Wrexham: Carrie Harper – Plaid Cymru

As part of Wrexham.com’s Welsh Assembly Election coverage we invited all candidates from Clwyd South and Wrexham to participate in a video interview and submit a small bio on themselves and why they are standing in the election.

Personal Statement – Carrie Harper  – Plaid Cymru

My name is Carrie Harper and I’m Plaid Cymru’s candidate in Wrexham for the upcoming Assembly election on May 5th. I’m 36 years old and Iive in Caia Park with my partner and our 2 children. I’m a former local county councillor and currently a community councillor for Caia Park.

I’m standing for Plaid Cymru because we want to transform our situation in Wales for the better. After 17 year of a Labour government, the result is a legacy of failure.

We see that in terms of the economy, with people in Wales having the lowest wages in the UK.

We see it in terms of health, with growing waiting lists, our A and E’s struggling to cope, and one of the lowest numbers of doctors per head of population than almost any other EU country.

We also see it in terms of education, Wales is performing worse than any other area of the UK in Maths, reading and science.

This has to change. Wales needs a new government now to provide the vision and leadership needed to build our nation. This is not as good as it gets.

Plaid Cymru has set out a comprehensive programme for government in our manifesto, it’s visionary, it’s fully costed and it’s ambitious for our communities:

Our pledge to you:

Health

· We’ll strengthen our NHS through recruiting 1000 new doctors and 5000 nurses in order to reduce waiting times.

· National commitment on cancer: 28 day diagnosis guarantee

· Abolish care home charges for the elderly and people with dementia

Education

· Free universal pre-school care for children from 3 years of age

· A National Premium for Teachers: raising standards in our schools

· Pay off £18,000 worth of debt for graduates who work in Wales and create 50,000 extra apprenticeships

Economy

· Major investment in our transport, energy and green infrastructure

· A WDA for the 21st Century to sell our products and ideas to the world

· Cut business rates and give more public contracts to Welsh firms

If we want things to change for the better, we have to start making different decisions. Now is the time for change in Wales and Plaid Cymru is the change Wales needs. Please lend us your support on May 5th
