Family and friends have remembered a man who “was loved so much” – while raising much needed funds for a local Hospice.

Soul at the Memo, held in memory of Wrexham man, Ken Charles, saw hundreds of people attend for a night of music and dancing at Wrexham’s Memorial Hall.

Organised by Ken’s daughters Denise and Melanie, guests were treated to live music from Andrew Randell and DJ Denzil before taking their chances in a charity raffle.

The event raised more than £1,200 for Nightingale House, Wrexham in recognition of the care and support the charity gave to Ken during his final days.

DJ Denzil Pemperton, who was ‘overwhelmed’ with the event’s success, now plans to get local residents into the groove once again with several charity events already in the pipeline.

He said: “Soul at the Memo was just a fantastic evening. We wanted to raise money for a superb cause while celebrating Ken and that’s exactly what we did.

“Nightingale House has been there for every member of the North Wales community in one way or another and the support we saw for them on the evening was absolutely amazing.

“The night really was a fitting tribute to both Ken and Nightingale House and we want to keep the momentum going. We hope that our future events in aid of the Hospice are even more successful.”

Debbie Barton, Hospice Fundraiser, said: “Denzil, with the help from all the organisers and entertainers, has exceeded all expectations with this donation and we are extremely grateful.

“Their collaboration and ultimate donation will afford many opportunities for our patients and their families and we are so appreciative of the support we continually get from our local community.

“We understand that everyone involved had a fantastic evening and what better way to fundraise? Having a great night out while raising money for our vital cause. It is always a pleasure to hear about events like Soul at the Memo and we can’t wait to learn all about the next venture.”
