Oswestry Man Arrested Following Skate Park Death

Police have arrested a man following the death of 20 year old Matthew Jones from Wrexham on Saturday at a skate park in Oswestry.

West Mercia Police have arrested a 38 year old Oswestry man on suspicion of manslaughter and of supplying class A drugs. He remains in police custody at this time.

Matthew was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was sadly pronounced deceased. His family are being supported by officers from West Mercia Police.

A postmortem is due to be carried out in the next few days and Matthew’s death is currently being treated as suspicious.

West Mercia Police say: “His death is being thoroughly investigated and officers are continuing to piece together what happened in the hours leading up to Matthew’s death.”

Chief Inspector Tom Harding of Shropshire Police said: “This is a tragic incident and as part of our ongoing investigation we remain eager to hear from anyone that was at the event at the skatepark on Rednal Industrial Estate on Friday night, into the early hours of Saturday morning. We believe people who attended this event could have vital information that will help us with our enquiries.”
