A man has been left injured in hospital after being attacked in Gwersyllt by a gang of men wearing balaclavas.

The assault took place on Wheatsheaf Lane in the village between 11pm-12am on Monday night.

Local residents called the police after seeing the man knocked to the floor and set upon by a group of three men who then kicked him repeatedly.

They said that there appeared to be two other men in tow with the attackers, one on a motorbike and one in a vehicle.

Police are keen to talk to anyone who saw a white Astra van in the vicinity.

The victim was later taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital where he is believed to be under observation.

North Wales Police have asked anyone with information to call them on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
