Police in Wrexham are appealing for information after more than a dozen parked cars were targeted by vandals over the weekend.

Residents in Deva Way and Bron Y Dre awoke on Saturday and Sunday morning to find that the tyres on their vehicles had been slashed or the wing mirrors had been kicked off.

Overall 13 cars were targeted in what what has been described as ‘criminal damage on a significant scale’.

Wrexham Town Sergeant, Simon Kneale said: “There is no other way to describe these acts other than total and utter wanton vandalism. People rely heavily on their vehicles to get to work, transport family members, attend appointments and go about their everyday lives. The impact of having your vehicle disabled through indiscriminate damage causes stress and can have serious financial implications.

“This is criminal damage on a significant scale and it is not acceptable.”

Officers have been working closely with the Caia Park community in recent months resulting in a sharp drop in crime and anti-social behaviour. Residents are now being urged to be vigilant.

Sgt Kneale said; “We have deployed police officers to the areas. We are examining CCTV footage and using other covert tactics. I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been in these areas in the early hours of Saturday August 1 and Sunday August 2 and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously.

“Somebody will know who is responsible for this damage and I would urge residents in the Caia community to help each other by passing on any information they may have.

“We have seen in the past how well the Wrexham communities can work together with the police in solving crime.

“If anybody has information which will reveal the identity of these individuals then I would ask them to call 101 or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Meanwhile at around 10:30pm last night Monday August 3 a Subaru car was set alight in Gwenfro and at around 11pm a wheelie bin was set alight in Berwyn View, a short distance away.

Last night there were unconfirmed reports in the area that a car had been set alight, with one resident telling Wrexham.com: “It’s awful, my boyfriend is now scared that is parked outside his own house.”

Police forensic investigators have examined the vehicle and enquiries are continuing in the area.

Sgt Kneale added: “We are taking this matter extremely seriously and we will do everything we can, with the public’s help, to identify those responsible for these senseless acts of vandalism.”
