All ant nests have “flying ants” in them. They are the breeding males and young queens which tend to emerge from the nest “en masse” when the conditions are just right. If they are in your house, the chances are you already have established nests in the brickwork or foundations.

The council pest control is usually very busy this time of year and there is probably a couple of weeks waiting list. There are private companies who are usually quite reasonably priced though.

By the way I don’t work for a pest control company :-)

Much of Wrexham has very sandy soil (Borras, Acton, Rhosnesni area). That is ideal for ants and why we seem inundated with ants in late summer when they swarm.

I tweeted about them in town centre a few weeks ago but not noticed any since. Wasps on the other hand, first one yesterday then loads today.

Flying ants have a very short life. You may see them i tremendous numbers for a day or so then disappear. That’s just normal for them.

Not quite. The males only live to mate really, but he queens live on and establish new nests. You don’t see them for long as their wings fall off and they disappear underground.
