Wrexham’s Tom James has won an Olympic gold medal in the men’s coxless fours at the London 2012 Olympic Games this morning.

James, from Coedpoeth, stormed to victory along with the rest of Team GB including Pete Reed, Andy Triggs Hodge and Alex Gregory to beat Australia in a thrilling final at Eton Dorney leading from the start.

They finished in an impressive 6:03.97 in what is Wrexham’s second medal success of the games after Wrexham born Chris Bartley won silver in the lightweight fours earlier this week.

Tom James was born in Cardiff but lives in Coedpoeth and there is speculation that we may see a Royal Mail gold postbox appear in town somewhere soon!

Every time a British athlete wins a gold medal in the Olympics or Paralympics, the Royal Mail will be painting a post box gold in their home town. We’ll keep an eye out to see if one pops up in Wrexham.
