A Wrexham secondary school will close tomorrow (Thursday 8 February) due to issues caused by the wintery conditions forecast.

Ysgol Rhosnseni confirmed this afternoon that the decision had been taken due “complications as a result of inclement weather.”

Earlier today Flintshire Council announced that all schools in the county borough would close on Thursday due to expected heavy snowfall.

In a statement on the council website Mr Andrew Brant, headteacher at Ysgol Rhosnesni, said staffing capabilities at the school had been reduced.

Mr Brant said: “Rhosnesni High School site will be closed to all staff and students tomorrow – Thursday 8th February 2024.

“The decision to close every school in our neighbouring authority has reduced our staffing capabilities to unacceptable levels.

“Best efforts will be made to provide on-line learning.

“Thank you for your support and understanding.”

Locally a yellow weather warning is in place throughout Thursday, with western parts of the county borough falling into the amber alert.

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council confirmed that the local authority is ready to respond to any issues that may arise as a result of any snow.

The spokesperson said: “We have a yellow warning for snow now extending a little further south and this kicks in tomorrow morning until Friday morning.

“A further Amber warning has now been received for the western part of the County Borough spreading into Shropshire, this is for snow and ice and starts tomorrow at 8am until 3 in the afternoon.

“We have the teams ready to roll and anticipate continual shouts this evening, early hours and then into the day tomorrow.”

More information on school closures across Wrexham County Borough can be found on the Wrexham Council website.
