A top of the table clash takes place on Boxing Day with fan owned Wrexham AFC taking on billionaire and celebrity former player owned Salford City FC.

In one example of the difference in the pedigree of the clubs, National League newcomers Salford City borrowed passionate Wrexham fans to illustrate what they can only dream of.

Salford City are famously owned by former Manchester United players along with a Singapore billionaire.

Back in 2016 Salford City FC tweeted up excerpts of their stadium plans, complete with mocked up hordes of fans heading to a match, with the images included in their formal planning application.

Looking at the images used a little closer things looked familiar to us here at Wrexham.com :

The fan images were ripped straight from one of our first ever articles, when we covered a fans march through Wrexham town centre during troubled times for Wrexham when owned by ‘businessmen’ such as Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts.

The local businessmen subsequently sold the debt ridden club for £1 after splitting the ground from the club, and removing land from the club to build student flats – with the promise that the cash would go to the club. Those flats sold for a eight figure sum this year, with £0 back to the club. The takeover by fans herald a new era of transparency that is rare in the football leagues.

The full ripped image from our article is below, with someone evidently spending a fair amount of time to photoshop out Eagles Meadow and St Giles church.

If Salford City FC directors (Nicholas Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phillip Neville or Paul Scholes) would like to retrospectively licence the image we would encourage any or all to make a reasonable donation to the Wrexham Supporters Trust direct in lieu of payment to us.

Wrexham v Salford City is on Boxing Day KO 3pm . Although you can pay on the gate, you can book early online as the game will be rammed because the town does not need to photoshop fans. Full ticketing information can be found on the official site here.
