A yellow weather warning for snow and ice in across Wales, including Wrexham, has been issued.

The weather warning was issued by the Met Office this morning and covers between 6pm on Tuesday through to 12pm on Wednesday. The weather warning includes most of Wales, including and Wrexham and forecasts cold, snowy and windy conditions.

It is expected that over the next 48 hours or so there will be ‘Showers of hail, sleet and snow on Tuesday evening and overnight are likely to leave a covering of snow of 3 – 6 cm in places, especially on ground over 100 m but also locally to lower levels too. Icy patches will also form on untreated surfaces. The public should be aware of the risk of tricky driving conditions.’

A statement released by the Chief Forecaster’s says: “A cold westerly airstream will spread across the area on Tuesday evening, allowing frequent showers in the overnight period to fall as snow, especially over high ground. There is some uncertainty over how much snow will settle at low levels, and many places within the yellow area may miss the snow altogether. However, where snow does occur it is likely to be heavy and produce a covering quite quickly.

“Coastal areas facing west or southwest will probably miss most of the snow, but hail and lightning will be hazards here, along with gusty winds.”

It is likely that the Met Office will update with further information tomorrow – which we will update / monitor.

The issuing of a ‘Yellow Weather’ warning from the MET Office means that the public should be ‘aware’ of the weather conditions, particularly if there are plans to travel.
