Wrexham Council have announced the face covering policy for schools locally, and have asked parents to support their schools to help keep people safe.

In an announcement early this evening the council said, “All Wrexham secondary schools will be requiring mainstream pupils to wear face coverings when in communal areas such as corridors. This decision is fully supported.

“Headteachers have worked hard to put in place measures to protect everyone in their care and this is the latest example of quickly taking on board recommendations by Welsh Government.”

“We ask parents to also fully support their children’s schools by ensuring that their children are aware of the need to wear face coverings in order to protect not only themselves but those around them, their families and the wider communities in which they live in order to keep Wrexham safe.”

Recently Wrexham has seen the pandemic manifest locally, with an outbreak connected to a food factory, concerns requiring community testing, an outbreak inside the local hospital, the grim stat last week of Wrexham having more Covid-19 related deaths than any other local authority in Wales or England for two weeks running, and most recently a cluster at a town centre pub.

For most schools it’ll be a phased return over two weeks as things adapt to a ‘new normal’ to hopefully avoid any issues locally, with different year groups returning on different days, and your school will have been in touch to confirm arrangements.
