Wrexham’s Poppy Picnic held to commemorate the anniversary of VE Day has been cancelled due to poor weather.

To mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day – the day that marked the end of WWII in Europe – a Poppy Picnic was set to be held on Llwyn Isaf Green tomorrow.

However this afternoon Wrexham Council tweeted to say: “Organisers are very disappointed to announce that due to the poor weather the Poppy Picnic scheduled for Llwyn Isaf tomorrow is cancelled.”

Earlier today crowds gathered in Queens Square to participate in a two minute silence to commemorate VE Day.

An air raid siren was sounded at 3pm to begin the commemorative silence, with local residents reporting they could hear the siren from as far as Acton.
