Wrexham wedding venue enters plans for new ceremony building and glamping accommodation

A wedding venue on the edge of Wrexham county borough has entered plans for a new ceremony building and glamping accommodation.

The owners of Iscoyd Park, which is located close to the English border near Whitchurch, want to convert a pigeon house within the grounds into a place for couples to hold their nuptials.

The scheme would also result in a walled garden at the Grade II* listed country house being used as a site for ten bell tents and yurts to accommodate guests, with further proposals for a shepherd’s hut.

The plans have been put forward to make the 18th century property safe to hold weddings during the coronavirus pandemic, according to consultants acting on behalf of the venue’s owner Philip Godsal.

In application documents submitted to Wrexham Council, they said: “The proposal is to convert the pigeon house into a ceremony room to allow for the option of a more Covid secure location.

“The proposal will incorporate the existing traditional materials and openings as much as possible to avoid unnecessary alterations.

“The proposal will also allow the applicant to offer a greater diversity of accommodation, including that which will be outside and therefore more Covid secure.

“The tents are temporary structures and do not require any significant groundworks for their installation.

“The shepherd’s hut will be located out of the view of Iscoyd Park and will be surrounded by existing mature trees and shrubs.”

The plans would also result in the creation of a new storage building within the existing car park at the venue.

The agents said the structure would be a more appropriate location to keep items than the listed outbuildings which are currently used.

The local authority is expected to make a decision on the application at a later date.
