Wrexham University renews partnership with leading civil engineering professional body

Wrexham University has renewed its partnership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) – the UK’s leading civil engineering professional body.

The academic partnership between the University and ICE means that students will benefit from the strong links and shared expertise between the two organisations, as well as partnerships with regional employers.

Aulay Mackenzie, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University, joined Elena Rinaldi, ICE Academic Partnerships Manager, to formally sign the renewed agreement. The partnership between the two organisations was first established back in 2018.

Louise Duff, Programme Leader in Civil Engineering, said: “It’s fantastic that we have renewed our academic partnership with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

“It is testament to the fact that our Civil Engineering course has a fantastic reputation, with industry at the heart of everything.

“Our offering in Wrexham is a unique one so it’s brilliant that the Institution recognises that.

“Both our students and staff members, benefit from this superb partnership, through the shared expertise and guidance.

“This approval demonstrates that ringing endorsement from the UK’s leading civil engineering professional body of our programme of study.”

During the ICE’s visit, the team met with a number of the University’s Built Environment graduates, who had been rewarded for their high academic achievement during the course of their studies.

Elena added: “Speaking on behalf of the Institution of Civil Engineers, we are delighted to renew our partnership with Wrexham University – an institution, which provides students with an innovative and flexible learning experience.

“We are thrilled to share our expert knowledge with both students and staff at the University, and help the institution further develop its industry links, which are already well established.

“This partnership also means that once Wrexham students graduate, they will have met the educational base for Incorporated Engineer registration and can go on to become professional members of the Institution, which is beneficial from a career development standpoint, as well as for building those networks in the field.”
