Plans to create eight rooftop apartments in Wrexham town centre have received the green light.

Approval was previously given to convert two floors of the Centenary Buildings on King Street into 52 flats.

Developers Taylor Reed Homes submitted a further application in July last year to create eight more units on the roof of the building, which is located opposite the town’s bus station.

Planning officers from Wrexham Council have now given the additional apartments their backing using delegated powers.

The scheme is one of a number of a proposals to build flats above shops which have been rubber-stamped in the last few years in a bid to encourage more people to live in the town centre.

Documents put forward to the local authority show the latest plans will see seven one-bedroom apartments and one two-bedroom apartment created.

The upper floors of the building are currently under redevelopment after the original application described it as a “negative feature” in the area.

The developers said the flats would make a more positive contribution.

A dedicated entrance foyer has been proposed for the apartments, with 20 parking spaces available at the back of the property.

It will also result in the refurbishment of the shops at ground floor level to encourage businesses to occupy them.
