Wrexham will host its first ever Armed Forces Community Carol Service this Christmas.

The free event, at St Giles Church, will take place on Tuesday, December 5 from 7pm.

It will feature performances from The Band of the Prince of Wales, which is one of the 14 regular bands in the British Army.

Based in Brecon, the musicians are well-travelled having performed in Germany, Cyprus, Dubai, Kuwait, Sudan, the Falkland Islands and at the FA cup Final at Wembley stadium.

A local choir will also be performing, and donations will go to the charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

Councillor Beverley Parry Jones, Wrexham Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “Wrexham has such strong links with the armed forces, and we want to do something special to both celebrate Christmas and pay tribute to veterans and the incredible men and women who serve their country.

“It promises to be a lovely evening full of Christmas spirit and music, and we’d love to see as many veterans and members of the public as possible.

“Please come along and help make this a fantastic evening.”

Cllr Parry-Jones added: “Scotty’s Little Soldiers was inspired by the experience of army widow Nikki Scott, who lost her husband in Afghanistan in 2009.

“It provides support to hundreds of children and young people across the UK who’ve lost a parent who has served in the British armed forces at some point during their life, and it does some incredible work.

“We’re so proud to support this charity and we hope the people of Wrexham will show their support on December 5 by coming along to the carol service at St Giles.

“It’s going to be a lovely evening and we look forward to welcoming everyone.”
