Voting is currently underway at Coleg Cambria to determine the college’s most inspirational role models of all time.

This week saw the launch of the voting process, with students given two weeks to decide on who they feel has inspired them the most.

The students can vote for people they know, fictional characters, politcal heroes; anyone who has inspired them in their lives.

Elinor Jones, a Health and Social Care student, aged 16 from Wrexham was present at the event and voted for her tutor at the college. She said: “I’ve voted for my tutor, Wendy Fowler, as she has always supported me, assisted me with any assignments and treated me with respect at all times.”

Joining the students for the launch were locally elected politicians, Ian Lucas MP, Lesley Griffiths AM and Ken Skates AM who each took the opportunity to vote alongside the students.

Ian Lucas chose the character Atticus Finch from the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, because he always fought for what he believed was right. Ken Skates voted for Michael Higgins, the Irish President, because of what he had managed to achieve despite his family background whilst Lesley Griffiths selected her old college lecturer, Dennis Jones, who had inspired her to follow a career in politics.

Lawrence Wood, Vice-Principal at Coleg Cambria said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to discuss their role models with some of their local politicians. Students were reflected on who they felt had inspired them and their choices included historical figures, friends and family members.”
