Students at Coleg Cambria in Wrexham have launched a music single to raise money for the college’s nominated charity, Teenage Cancer Trust.

The song, Believe in Me, performed by Wrexham student band Glo is being released on itunes. (Full details here)

A music video has been produced to accompany the song, directed by media student Cameron Williams 18, who has first-hand experience of dealing with cancer.

Cameron said: “I was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer at the age of 11 and cleared two year ago at the age of 16. When I was first diagnosed with cancer I was really confused, everything was caving in on me and I felt completely powerless and suffered from a really low self-esteem. Teenage Cancer Trust helped me out hugely and picked me up.

“Believe in Me is an amazing song, the lyrics are really heartfelt and really show how I felt during that time. Please buy the song as it will raise money to help more people like me.”

The video shows a teenage girl in her bedroom, before her items are taken away and the room fades into greyscale. The video concludes with a poigniant message about childhood experiences and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Luci Melegari, Director of Creative Industries at Coleg Cambria said: “This has been a project that has involved students and staff from across the Wrexham sites with learners from Music Production, Music Technology, Media Production, Hair and Beauty and Construction all working together as a team.

“At Coleg Cambria we aim to provide more than just education and training; we encourage students get involved in their local community and help others. We’re really proud of the song and video and hope that everyone will buy it now in support of Teenage Cancer Trust.”

Sian Day, Regional Fundraiser at Teenage Cancer Trust said: “We want to thank Cameron, Glo and everyone from Coleg Cambria who have been involved in this project. The creativity and dedication is overwhelming. The money raised from sales of the song will support young people diagnosed with cancer in the local area.”

The video can be viewed on YouTube here.
