Wrexham Police FC will take on Everton FC podcasters ‘Talking Toffees’ in their next fundraising fixture.

Taking place on Sunday 3 September at Clywedog Leisure Centre, it will be the police side’s second meeting against Merseyside-based opposition.

The first came against Rainbow Toffees – Everton’s LGBTQ+ supporters group, in Liverpool last year.

In fixtures played against community sides to date, the Wrexham officers have raised more than £17,000 for charities, hospitals and local initiatives.

Proceeds from September’s game will support Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, with the money used to help fund treatment, life-saving equipment and toys for patients.

Club founder and lifelong Evertonian, Sgt Dave Smith was delighted to take up the offer of a match against the Talking Toffees team.

“As a club, we’re very active on social media and we work hard to promote the good causes we support,” he explained.

“I think that’s certainly helped to raise our profile among the football community and we’ve had lots of offers from clubs outside of North Wales who are keen to play us.

“So, when the team at Talking Toffees reached out and offered to play in Wrexham, we were happy to accept.

“Both teams are proud to be raising funds for Alder Hay – a brilliant hospital providing vital care for young patients across the North West and North Wales.”

Formed in January 2021, Wrexham Town Police FC are off-duty officers who aim to build cohesion between the police and the communities they serve.

Playing friendly matches on a monthly basis, the club’s charitable endeavours have even attracted the attention of Wrexham AFC’s high-profile owners Rob McElheney and Ryan Reynolds.

Jointly, the pair made a £10,000 donation to the club’s fundraising drive for Wrexam Maelor Hospital earlier this summer.

More recently, former Everton players Tony Cottee, Kevin Sheedy, and Kevin Ratcliffe have each recorded personalised videos for social media in support of the match.

Sgt Smith added: “Getting these messages of support from ex-professionals and celebrities means a lot.

“It has helped us raise our profile, but more importantly it has highlighted the worthy causes we aim to support each month.

“The public have also given generously, at a time when we know many people are struggling with the cost of living.

“I’d like to thank everyone who’s made a donation so far and reiterate that the money raised really does make a tangible difference to people’s lives.”

The 12pm match against Talking Toffees will be take place at Clywedog Leisure Centre, Wrexham.
