A Wrexham Playgroup’s performance has been judged as ‘Excellent’ in a recent inspection.

Garden Village Playgroup’s current performance has been deemed as ‘Excellent’ following an inspection by Estyn in March 2014. Along with this playgroup’s prospects for improvement have also been listed as excellent.

The playgroup, which had 10 funded 3-year-old children present during the inspection, is located across the way from Wat’s Dyke Primary school.

There are four ‘judgements’ that can be given to a school’s performance; excellent, good, adequate and unsatisfactory. An ‘excellent’ judgement means that there are ‘Many strengths, including significant examples of sector-leading practice.”

Garden Village Playgroup’s current performance has been deemed as excellent because:

– Children make exceptional progress from their starting points;
– Teaching is excellent;
– Care, support and guidance are excellent;
– Learning experiences are highly challenging, varied and interesting; and
– The playgroup makes excellent use of the community to extend the learning of the children

Within the report, Estyn list their ‘Main Findings’ from the inspection. The report shows that the playgroup were either judged as ‘Excellent’ or ‘Good’.

Teaching at the playgroup was deemed as ‘Excellent’, with Estyn praising practitioners on their ‘Exceptional knowledge of child development and of the requirements of the Foundation Phase’ and their ‘motivation’ and enthusiasm.

The ‘Well-being’ of the children was also deemed as ‘Excellent’, with Estyn noting that: “Without exception children are happy and feel safe in the setting. Children are highly confident in their play and are involved in making decisions about their learning and choices in the playgroup.”

Along with Well-being, the playgroup’s Learning Experiences, Partnership Working and Care,Support and Guidance were also judged as ‘Excellent’.
