Staff at Wrexham County Borough Museum & Archives are organising a special exhibition to mark the Year of Legends and need your help.

The museum has teamed up with a local artist who works as an illustrator for DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Titan Comics producing pencil drawings for their superhero cartoons.

The exhibition will feature his drawings of those well-known comic strip superheroes Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman.

They say, “We would like to display some historic superhero memorabilia alongside the drawings and are appealing to local collectors to lend the following for display in the exhibition or online:

  • Figures, toys and models of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Dr Who, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel or Iron Man, made between 1939 and 1979.
  • Comics featuring these superheroes from the Golden Age (1938-50) or the Silver Age (1956-70).

All loans would be returned at the end of the exhibition.

Cllr Hugh Jones, the relevant Lead Councillor, said: “This exhibition promises to be of great interest, and I hope memorabilia and merchandise collectors across Wrexham come forward to temporarily loan their items to the Museum, so that it can showcase their enthusiasm.

“Sci-fi and comic book memorabilia and merchandise are popular cultural artefacts in their own right, and the continually increasing popularity of events such as the Wales Comic Con show there is a strong appetite for such things here in Wrexham.

“As such, I hope this exhibition proves to be a popular one, and collectors are kind enough to lend their items for display.”

If you would be willing to lend your superhero memorabilia, please contact the museum on 01978 297 460 or email [email protected] to discuss what you have to lend.
