The winners of an annual gardening competition, which has been keenly contested in Wrexham for 20 years, have been revealed.

Wrexham MP Ian Lucas said the 2018 Caia Park Garden Competition was particularly difficult to judge as the quality of entries was so impressive.

Mr Lucas, who judged the overall winning garden, attended the prize-giving ceremony at the Wynnstay Hotel on Wednesday, October 3. He cut a birthday cake to celebrate the event’s 20th birthday.

The competition, which is backed by the Caia Park Environmental Group and Caia Park Community Council, has 14 different categories including best roses, most interesting flowers and best pond.

Mr Lucas judged the overall prize for the best garden in Caia Park, visiting each entry over the summer.

This year the top prize went to Victoria Partyka, who triumphed from a shortlist of 10.

“I have been judging the Caia Park Garden Competition for many years and it is always a highlight of the summer,” said Mr Lucas

“This year, the residents of Caia Park once again made it very difficult for me to select a winner – as the overall standard was so impressive.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone who entered. The gardens brought a real splash of colour to Caia Park and it is always pleasing to see people taking so much pride and care in their gardens.

“Everyone should be proud of their efforts – and well done to Victoria for claiming the top prize.”

Among the other winners on the night were Gwenfro Community Primary School and St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, who shared the prize for best service garden.
