Wrexham’s very own Inclusion Football Club have secured the top title in Europe’s Biggest Disability Competition.

The club, based in Plas Madoc, was amongst 72 teams to travel to Belfast to take part in the George Best Community Cup 2019.

The club took three teams this year and had 24 players involved from all aspects of disability.

Unlike previous years the weather was glorious and the Wrexham club stepped up to the mark by winning the title against English outfit South Tyneside.

Wrexham IFC, which is 100 per cent voluntary, have already won six trophies this year – including major disability tournaments in Lytham and Doncaster who are among the most decorated teams in the UK.

Wayne Greenshields, general manager said: “What a great achievement, not only the tournament victory, but for five people to have flown for the first time, 14 of the group had never been to Belfast before.

“We had the lowest average age of the whole tournament and the life lessons these people have gained through participation, integration, victory and defeat will stay with them forever.”

Football manager, Carl Austin added: “The tournament is huge and although there no official European tournament there is nothing bigger and we are not aware of a bigger tournament in the world.

“This year 72 teams competed over two days in Belfast and to regain the title is marvellous.

“Our aim is to give people with disabilities a platform to play football but to win the biggest tournament available to us is truly fantastic.”

The club caters for Disability and runs a mental health provision and can be found here:
