Wrexham food and drink companies showcase their produce to a global audience

Wrexham-based food and drink companies joined over one hundred Welsh businesses in showcasing their products to buyers and leading industry figures from across the globe.

Organised by Food and Drink Wales (Welsh Government) and held bi-annually, BlasCymru/TasteWales took place at the International Convention Centre Wales (ICCW) in Newport at the end of October.

The event gave companies the opportunity to meet with UK and international buyers, with a view of raising the international profile of food and drink from Wales and securing new contracts.

It featured well over 1,000 traders as well as the launch of 200 new products.

Attendees included producers from across Wrexham and Flintshire, including Goch & Co, Jones’ Village Bakery, Sabor de Amor by Beatriz, The Pudding Compartment Ltd & The Creative Bake Co, Wrexham Lager Beer Co Ltd, 9 Meals from Anarchy and Grazed Bakery.

Beatriz Albo, Managing Director at Sabor De Amor by Beatriz said, “It was an honour to showcase our authentic Welsh-inspired products to a global audience, and we are grateful for the opportunity to connect with both UK and international buyers.

“Meeting passionate individuals from diverse culinary backgrounds not only allowed us to share the unique flavours of Wales but also fostered meaningful relationships within the industry.

“We are excited about the prospect of our products reaching new markets, and we are dedicated to continuing our journey of spreading the true taste of Wales worldwide.”

Another company who exhibited was 9 Meals from Anarchy who work in collaboration with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage to make unique organic vegetable stocks and ketchups to retail and foodservice.

Tom Whitley, Director at 9 Meals from Anarchy said: “Attending BlasCymru was a great experience for us.

“Being surrounded by passionate food and drink producers and with so many senior buyers from retailers and wholesalers under one roof, alongside industry seminars and talks, we cannot wait to see what opportunities and experiences will come from attending this event.”

Confirmed delegates at the event included buyers and representatives from the likes of Tesco, Ocado, Aldi and M&S. Meanwhile, those coming from further afield included representatives from Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East, affirming Wales’ place at the forefront of the global industry.

The Welsh Government’s Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd, Lesley Griffiths said: “BlasCymru/TasteWales once again showcased the fantastic work which takes place across Wales to produce high quality food and drink.

“It was great to see such new and innovative products launched and I look forward to seeing the results of the many business meetings which took place as companies secure new contracts to sell their products at home and abroad.”
