A direct bus service between Wrexham and Ellesmere has been established for what is believed to be the first time in 20 years.

Independent Wrexham bus operator Bryn Melyn has introduced the route which will run between Ellesmere and Wrexham Eagles Meadow.

Operations supervisor Charlie Williams said the last service to run directly between the two towns was the D46 almost 20 years ago.

The 502 bus started operating last week and carries out three return journeys a day linking Ellesmere, Dudleston Heath, Ifton Heath, St Martins, Chirk Railway Station and Wrexham Eagles Meadow and Bus Station.

Buses depart Ellesmere at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm (School Holidays), 4pm (School Days) returning from Wrexham at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, to allow passengers ample time for shopping trips in Wrexham Eagles Meadow or to explore Ellesmere.

The return fare between Ellesmere and Wrexham is £5 adults, holders of both English and Welsh concessionary passes are able to use them on this service. Service 502 connects at Ellesmere with service 501 to and from Shrewsbury.

Wayne Chard, Manager at Bryn Melyn Ltd said “We had had constant requests from our passengers on 501 service in Ellesmere area to introduce a service to Wrexham. We have responded to their request with the launch of this new service and hope people use it to visit Wrexham or Ellesmere.”
