Two Wrexham cyclists will be taking on a 903 mile cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats in an eight day challenge to raise money for charity

During the last week of August, Hugh Valentine and Gary Foster who work at APPE will take on the immense challenge of cycling the famous route starting on the 24th.

Gary Foster (pictured above) is 48 and a relative new-comer to the cycling world and took on the inspiring challenge to spur him on to change his lifestyle in order to get fit and healthy.

To date he has lost three stone training and anticipates a total loss of four stone by the end of the challenge.

Gary is riding for two charities, one called Loros, which is a palliative care charity that helps and supports cancer patients.

This charity is close to his family as it supported his mother-in-law through the final months of her illness. His other chosen charity is The Boys Brigade, a Christian youth organisation which cares for and challenges youngsters through a programme of informal education.

Hugh Valentine (above), 25, is doing the challenge in memory of his sister who sadly passed away in 2011.

Hugh wants to help less-fortunate people and feels that completing the challenge in memory of his sister is a great way to keep her spirit alive. The charity Hugh has chosen is YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.

The pair are also holding a James Bond themed casino night on September 8th at the Buck House Hotel in Bangor-on-Dee to raise money for the charity Young-Minds. Tickets costing £10 are available from the Buck House.
