Wrexham Council have said all cladding they use has been subjected to in depth testing, including fire testing, and complies with building regulations and British standards.

Following the horrific fire in London we asked Wrexham Council if they had started any reviews into cladding or similar works in the Wrexham area, and if cladding on Council or sub contracted work is fire retardant.

Wrexham.com observed the work that took place in Hightown with terraced house upgrades, part of which included cladding placed over the existing brickwork of houses to improve insulation and improve the look of the two story buildings.

This morning Wrexham Council have issued a wider statement, with it noted that wider media queries have been lodged, likely placed with every Local Authority in the UK.

Wrexham Council said: “In light of the recent tragic events at Grenfell Tower in London, Wrexham County Borough Council has received a number of enquiries regarding the installation of External Wall Insulation (EWI) to properties across the County Borough.

“The cladding used to refurbish Grenfell Tower was a ventilated rainscreen system and not an insulated render/brick slip system used by the Council.”

“All EWI systems used by the Council have been subjected to in depth testing, including fire testing, through the BBA (British Board of Agrément) and the BRE (British Research Establishment) and comply with British Standards and current Building Regulations.”

“It is for these reasons that the Council has used these materials”.
