A Wrexham nightclub popular with locals back in the 90’s will be revived for one night only in aid of charity.

The Wrexham Centenary Club at the back of the Racecourse will play host to an evening of 90’s Dance and House music classics on November 9, with all proceeds raised on the night being donated to charity.

Known then as the Cotton Club, the venue was popular among locals, and was best known for its House music nights on Saturdays and Thursdays.

After an evening posting links to 90’s music on her Facebook page, organiser Joanne Hamlington said there should be a Cotton Club reunion. After receiving support from her friend, arrangements for the event began.

“We used to go to the Cotton Club every Saturday.” said Joanne, “You couldn’t pick anywhere better.”

All proceeds raised be donated to three charities; Autism Wishes, Help for Heroes and also Leukemia Research UK.

Speaking about why the reunion night will be supporting these three particular charities, Joanne said: “This is the first time I’ve ever done anything this big before. My son Jake is in the army, and we’ve experienced first hand what it is like for families.

“I also lost my father at the age of 62 to leukemia five years ago and I wanted to do something to raise funds for research.”

Joanne also decided to raise funds for local charity Autism Wishes, as her friends son has the condition. Joanne was inspired to help when her friend, Debbie ran the Great North Run for him recently.

Throughout the night there will be live DJ sets and also a performance from nineties band ‘Awesome 3’. There will also be two floors dedicated to the music that the Cotton Club was locally famed for, with 90’s House music playing downstairs; and 90’s Dance classics playing upstairs.

There will also be a prize draw, with prizes so far including a Pantomime ticket, a meal for two at the Plas Coch, a meal voucher at The Acton, a Lavender House voucher and a Candy Lane crafts cake filled with sweets.

Joanne said: “On the night there will be smoke machines and lasers, we’re really going to take it back as far as we can. There’s been such a buzz for the event already.”

Joanne added: “I’ve been amazed by the response and the generotisty of people.”

Tickets cost £5.50 and can be purchased from places such seetickets.com, the Catrin Finch Centre at Glyndwr and also Ragazzi.
