A talented Wrexham clarinettist is featured as soloist on a brand new CD produced by one of Europe’s top orchestras.

Katherine Lacy, who is Principal Clarinet with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, has just made her debut solo recording of Mozart’s famous Clarinet Concerto with the orchestra, along with Mozart’s clarinet quintet with four of the orchestra’s finest players.

A former pupil at Acton Park and St David’s (now Rhosnesni) schools, Katherine went on to study at Chetham’s school of Music, Manchester and the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Almost immediately after completing her studies, Katherine was appointed Principal Bass Clarinet with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra where she spent eight happy years. She then moved to London to join the BBC Symphony Orchestra and two years later was appointed as Principal Clarinet with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Throughout 2017/18 Katherine performed the Mozart Concerto with the Orchestra in several venues throughout the UK as well as at the orchestra’s London base, Cadogan Hall. Katherine plays the concerto on a Basset Clarinet, the instrument Mozart originally wrote it for.

The CD will go on wide release in September but is available in Wrexham from the Siop/Shop @ Ty Pawb, the new cultural centre in the former People’s market (01978-292093), as well as from the RPO’s website – (www.rpo.co.uk)
