Thousands of people flocked to Queens Square last night to watch the Wrexham Christmas light switch on.

The weather was a vast improvement on the ‘hurricane’ of last year, and thousands of Wrexhamites came along to enjoy the fair, live music, the hog roast and the panto.

People were also encouraged to tweet Wrexham.com throughout the night, which many of you did, so thank you! Wockhardt also provided the free glow sticks, which were very popular with the crowds. We even saw a dog running round with a glow stick attached to his collar!

The cast of Glyndwr panto switched the lights on and entertained the crowds, including a song from X Factor star, David Heath.

As the lights went on an impressive firework display went off. Some of us had exclusive access on the night to the firework area, and got to see the fireworks go off from a close (but safe!) distance.

Local band The Maydays also performed, along with musician Kameelion and the Delta Academy.

The event itself was organised by The Foundry, Lateral Arc, and us lot at Wrexham.com. So thank you for all your support on the night!

Hopefully you all enjoyed the night as much as we did! If you want to send us your photos or thoughts, then please email them to [email protected] or tweet them to @wrexham. We’ve been inundated with pictures so far, and will be adding more throughout the day.

We’d like to thank Sue McGrane, Carl Thorton (the man on the roof so many of you Tweeted to tell us about) and Phillip Jones for sending us photo of the event.

Preparation for event started earlier this week, when a team of eight of us started packing 2,500 goody bags.
