A Wrexham allotment scheme is celebrating its third birthday with a competition to win an allotment for a year.

Green Spaces allotments were set up in 2012 as a social enterprise in response to the shortage of growing land for the residents of Wrexham and Chester. Currently Wrexham’s waiting list for allotments is just over 200 and Chester is estimated to have around 2000 on their lists.

Based in a four acre field in Holt, just off the A483 Green Spaces has been a great success and a life changer for many of the residents to whom their plot has become a daily part of their lives. Tending to the chickens, watering, weeding and digging, planning, harvesting or just sitting a while with a flask of tea the benefits of allotment ownership are much more than just growing produce.

Sarah Tomlinson from Green Spaces said: “Going to site makes you realise how important the social side to having an allotment is, we have great bunch of plot holders from the retired, families and those just after a slice of the good life enjoying the hard work and picturesque views by the side of the River Dee.

“Green Space allotments have proved popular as gifts – we have Christmas, Birthday and anniversary allotment holders and even a few newly retired husbands who were swiftly gifted plots by wives keen to have them out of the house, and from under their feet we think.”

There are over forty plots available for rent in different sizes from just £10 per month. Water is available on site, and the soil is of the highest quality for growing your own vegetables, fruit and flowers.

To enquire about getting your own plot and to enter the birthday free prize draw competition for your very own allotment for a year either phone Sarah on 01829 271431 or send your details (name, address, contact numbers) by post or email to [email protected], Lodge Farm, Commonwood, Wrexham, LL13 9TE.

The lucky winner will be announced on March 27th 2015.
