Work to build a new community hub in Rossett has been earmarked to start next month.

In late December, Wrexham.com reported how plans to demolish a disused toilet block on The Green to be replaced by the new Hwb Yr Orsedd were set to move forward early in the new year.

The information was revealed in a tender notice published on the Sell2Wales website by Hwb Yr Orsedd Ltd, ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌the not-for-profit company behind the scheme.

The document stated that the work could begin as soon as this month (January).

However, our article led to a statement being issued those behind the proposals, clarifying that a start date had “not yet been confirmed”.

Less than two weeks later, they have now announced work will begin in February subject to planning conditions being discharged.

In a post on Facebook, they said: “It’s been a long time coming but finally we are pleased to announce that we have now agreed terms with a builder to commence the building of the hwb.

“We met with them yesterday and contracts have now been signed.

“We hope that work will commence in February but this is dependent on a couple of pre-commencement planning conditions which need to be signed off by Wrexham Council. These are expected to come through imminently.

“We will update everyone with the actual build start date and expected completion date as soon as we can.

“This is a significant milestone for the hwb project and we are thrilled to share this news with all those who have supported us from the start of the project.

“We hope we can count on your continued support going forward.”

The proposals were given the green light in October 2022 ‌and will see the existing 50-year-old toilet block demolished after it was closed in 2017 due to vandalism.

‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌It will be replaced by a new hub aimed at providing a place for groups to meet, socialise and participate in activities.
