Welsh Youth Parliament seeks views on length and content of school days
The Welsh Youth Parliament (WYP) is launching an ambitious initiative to understand young people’s views on the structure and diversity of their school day.
The project will allow pupils, teachers, and other interested adults to have their say on the length and content of school days, including the availability of creative and physical activities.
The Youth Parliament believes that school experiences should be “fun, educational, and inspiring”, but recognises that access to more creative and physical activities can sometimes be limited.
As part of their ongoing efforts to address this issue, the WYP is keen to hear directly from those most affected – the students themselves.
“Do you enjoy sports, art or music? Are these good for your well-being? Is there enough time for them in your school day?”, the WYP queries in the new survey.
By gathering young people’s views over the next few months, they hope to identify what changes need to be made to the Welsh Government’s current policies.
Additionally, the WYP is also inviting parents, babysitters, teachers, and other adults working with children and young people to participate in a separate survey.
Their views, they believe, will provide a broader understanding of the issue and contribute to shaping a more balanced school experience for the youth.
This is an unprecedented opportunity for the people of Wales to have a direct say in the educational policies and strategies that affect them.
The hope is that these insights will lead to an enhanced, balanced, and inspirational school experience for all young people in Wales.
