The Welsh Conservatives have selected their candidate to fight Clwyd South at the next general election.

Simon Baynes is a former businessman, founder of the charity Concertina – Music for the Elderly and author of the recently published book “Lake Vyrnwy – The Story of a Sporting Hotel”.

He previously stood in the Clwyd South constituency in the 2017 General Election and received 14,646 votes.

Simon also stood in the Welsh Assembly elections back in 2016, finishing second to Ken Skates.

Speaking about his candidate selection, Simon said: “I am extremely pleased to have been selected, and I will be campaigning hard on the issues that matter most to the people of Clwyd South.”

“It is essential that we leave the EU on 31st October, with or without a deal.

“I strongly support the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and his approach to negotiating with the EU.”

Simon said other areas he would focus on if elected include a reduction in business rates, farming / countryside,  funding front line services, particularly health, education and care for the elderly.

He added: “We need a long-term solution so that people are not forced to sell their homes when they go into a care home. I also want to see pensioner benefits fully protected.”

Simon is a Trustee of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and Mid Wales Opera and Chairman of the Holroyd Community Theatre near Oswestry. He is also chairman of the Welsh Historic Gardens Trust.
