A special exhibition documenting the ways that weddings have changed over the past hundred years is to take place in Wrexham – and Wrehamites are being encouraged to get involved with their pictures.

Over the next two days, work will begin on collecting wedding photographs in preparation for a special Valentines Day exhibition next year at the Wrexham Museum.

Wrexhamites are encouraged to pop by the museum with wedding photos which will eventually feature in next year’s exhibition.

Karen Murdoch, Collections Manager, said: “We are appealing to anyone who was married inside the county borough or who has wedding photographs of their relatives and ancestors who married locally to bring them along to Wrexham Museum today or tomorrow. You don’t have to part with the photographs as we will scan them on the day. Hopefully, people will be able to tell us something about the people in their older photographs.”

It is hoped that the images of local weddings will be digitally displayed to document how wedding dresses, traditions, hairstyles and clothes have changed over the past hundred years.

Marriage and the big day itself is a milestone in many people’s lives, whether as bride and groom, the best man (men), bridesmaids, ushers, page boys, or family and friends. They are important not just in our culture, but in every culture, even if the traditions and the ceremonies vary.

Eleri Farley, Assistant Learning Officer added: “If you or your family are local but were married elsewhere, please bring your photographs along too. If there is a Wrexham connection and a great story behind the pictures then we would love to see your photographs. The appeal is also open to people who have moved to Wrexham and were married elsewhere; the exhibition aim is to show the variety of ways the people of Wrexham County Borough chose to celebrate the big day.”

If you have any photos that would you like featured in the exhibition then just turn up at Wrexham Museum, Regent Street between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. either today or tomorrow and ask for the Wedding Bells team.

If you have any other wedding memorabilia, then please contact the Wedding Bells team on 01978 297 460 or email [email protected]
