Voting opens in first Welsh Youth Parliament elections

Young people in Wrexham and across Wales are now eligible to vote in the first Welsh Youth Parliament elections.

Wrexham’s Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths, is encouraging local residents aged between 11 and 18 to register and vote.

A total of 40 seats are up for grabs with 480 young people standing as candidates. Nine candidates are from Wrexham and details about the individuals can be found on the Youth Parliament website page about Wrexham here: www.youthparliament.wales/wrexham

Before voting in the Welsh Youth Parliament elections, people must first register online. The quick process asks you to provide an email address, your postcode and your date of birth. Those wishing to participate must register before the 5pm deadline on 16th November.

Once people have registered, you can cast their vote. Voting is open now and ends on 25 November 2018, with the results being announced in December.

Lesley Griffiths AM said: “I would like to wish all the candidates standing in Wrexham the very best of luck.”

“Over 13,000 11 – 18 year olds across Wales have signed up so far and I hope even more people will register before Friday’s deadline. All those who are eligible and haven’t yet registered to vote should visit the Welsh Youth Parliament website to find out more about the candidates and how they intend to represent you.”

Once elected Welsh Youth Parliament Members will serve a two-year term.

Another 20 young people will be selected to join the Parliament by associated organisations including the Urdd, Girlguiding Cymru and Learning Disability Wales.
