Teaching staff at a Wrexham school have taken part in a “Local Life Under Lockdown” project after a series of musical videos posted on social media were spotted by museum.

Over the last few weeks staff at the Wrexham Early Years Centre on Prince Charles Road, have been posting the videos on Instagram of them filmed performing songs to entertain the children and to support their learning.

The videos have covered shapes, numbers and colours – with praise from parents on what the staff members have been doing for their children.

One parent Jade, said: “The videos have been so helpful for my son, he watches them all.

“When we drive past the school he gets upset and points to the school and wants to go inside. When we get home, we put on the videos and he watches, starts smiling and calls his brother to watch them with him.

“The video clips seem to re assure him that school, teachers and friends are all still there. He loves the familiar songs and attempts to sign along with them.

“He really enjoys the videos.”

The videos have now been picked up by the Wrexham Museum to feature in its new “Local Life Under Lockdown” project.

Working with local film-makers and photographers, the museum is aiming to compile a 21st century scrapbook of images, film, testimony, archives and objects about life in Wrexham during the pandemic.

Jonathon Gammond from Wrexham Museum said – “We approached the Wrexham Early Years Centre as part of the museum’s Local Life Under Lockdown project which aims to record and collect for posterity some of the experiences of life in Wrexham since the lockdown was announced on March 23rd to combat coronavirus.”

Wrexham Early Years Centre will continue to regularly make new videos – whilst obviously maintaining a social distance – both in English and Welsh until the school reopens to all children.

Wrexham Early Years Centre is a local authority school that caters for children aged from 3 – 5 years old. It is a mainstream school with a resourced provision for children with Additional Learning Needs.
