A car has been destroyed after being set alight in Caia Park in the early hours of this morning.

At 3.55am this morning, Thursday 8th January 2015, North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the report of a car on fire in a field close to Gwenfro in Caia Park, Wrexham.

The vehicle a blue Ford Fiesta was destroyed by the blaze, the circumstances of which are being treated as suspicious by local Police.

Local Inspector Paul Wycherley said “A criminal investigation is under-way and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who saw any suspicious persons or activity, or indeed knows anything about this fire to contact Police immediately.”

The incident comes just days after a vehicle was torched in Bersham earlier this week. On December 30th another
two cars were set alight and abandoned in Hightown. The two cars both received extensive damage as a result of the incident, which was believed to have been caused by deliberate ignition.

Inspector Wycherley added: “Working together with the NWFRS and joint Arson Reduction Team we are appealing to anyone in the community who knows who is responsible to make contact with us as soon as possible before someone is injured.

“The incidents have also wasted the time of Emergency Services whose time is invariably needed elsewhere and deliberate ignitions like this could cost lives. If you have any information I’d ask you make contact with Police on 101 as soon as possible.”

If you have any information about the fire North Wales Police can be contacted on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and quote reference S003397
