‘Up and coming’ Wrexham accountancy firm with boardroom ping-pong table is celebrated

A Wrexham accountancy firm with its own boardroom ping-pong table has been celebrated for its success.

The Uncommon Practice recently won the ‘Up and Coming’ award at the inaugural Wrexham Business and Community Awards 2023.

The achievement was recognised with a visit from Wrexham Council’s Lead Member for Economy, Councillor Nigel Williams.

Based at Redwither Tower on Wrexham Industrial Estate, the firm’s growth over the past two years has included acquiring two accountancy practices and taking on five apprentices from Coleg Cambria.

The firm also produces its own ‘Uncommon Sense’ podcast, where business owners and leaders talk about their challenges and opportunities, offering honest advice and real-world anecdotes.

Councillor Williams took part in a special Wrexham business edition when he visited The Uncommon Practice – called ‘The Resurgence of Wrexham Business’.

Marlon Armstrong, founder and director of accountancy services, said: “We were delighted to welcome Councillor Nigel Williams to our offices in Wrexham. It was great to introduce him to our team and to show him around.

“It’s fair to say that Nigel hadn’t visited an accountancy and advisory firm with graffiti on the walls and a board room ping pong table before.

“But as we said to Nigel, saying we’re uncommon is easy. Proving it in the way we work with our clients is more difficult, but that is what we do.

“And our rapid growth in only a couple of years shows that our fresh approach is valued by our clients.

“We’re proud to use our base in Wrexham to support businesses locally, nationally and internationally and we were very proud to win the ‘Up and Coming’ award at the Wrexham Business and Community Awards.”

Councillor Williams said: “It’s fantastic to see so many forward-thinking businesses thriving in Wrexham, and it underlines what a fantastic business location Wrexham is.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to The Uncommon Practice and the podcast was a great opportunity to talk about issues affecting local businesses.

“It was great to meet the team, and the office space is a really creative and inspiring environment, and very much reflects the ethos of this innovative company.

“There’s even a ping-pong table, which is popular with both staff and clients. Although my own ping-pong skills I have to admit were a little rusty.”
