Unite members at Wrexham Council set to strike in September
Wrexham Council workers represented by Unite Wales are set to strike in September.
Last month union members voted overwhelmingly in favour to reject a pay offer and hold industrial action.
Unite, the UK’s leading union, balloted thousands of local authority members, with workers providing council services in Bath and North East Somerset, Cardiff, Chesterfield, Cornwall, Coventry, Cumberland, Cynon Valley, Darlington, Derby and North Tyneside, Gwynedd, Ispwich, Plymouth, Sefton, Warrington, Wigan and Wrexham the first to vote for strike action.
Unite say that in reality, this is a real terms pay cut for all workers, which have seen wages decline by over a quarter in real terms since 2010 due to wage freezes and below inflation pay increases.
Today Unite Wales served notice of striking to Wrexham Council and Cardiff Council.
Strike action will now be commencing at the beginning of September.
A spokesperson for Unite Wales said: “During this period of strike action many council services will be affected and household waste will not be collected.
“We call on the NJC to get back to the negotiating table and give our members the fair and decent pay rise that they deserve.”
