Firefighters were called to two car fires in Caia Park in the early hours of this morning.

The fire service received the first call at 2:47am regarding a fire in Gwenfro which involved a black Vauxhall Astra.

Just twelve minutes later at 2:59am there was another call to the fire service to a fire involving a silver Vauxhall Astra on Bryn Hafod, which is quite close to Gwenfro.

The Wrexham fire service said their crews attended and used hose reels to extinguish the fires.

Carrie Harper, community councillor for the Queensway area, said this afternoon “We have seen many car arsons across Caia Park over the last 12 months or so, it is a mindless act that is putting lives at risk. The primary concern is of course safety but these ongoing attacks leave the whole community feeling vulnerable and on edge. The latest attacks were in Bryn Hafod and Gwenfro, areas that have already seen several arsons in recent months.

“I have lived in Caia all my life and have never seen a crime spate like this, it’s deeply worrying. I know residents are very anxious and concerned that these attacks are still ongoing, I’d urge everyone to be vigilant and to report anything suspicious to the police.”

We have been told the matter will be raised at the next meeting of Caia Park CC which Chief Inspector Paul Wycherley will be attending for the first time.
