Traffic across much of Wrexham Town Centre and sections of the A483 are currently at a standstill this morning.

UPDATE 10:05am: Many many people have been in touch with various theories as to why this is occurring

John wrote in to say: “Main cause for above down to brain dead traffic light operator at ramada roundabout. No road works in operation. Total lack of common sense. Problems made worse by one way system in watery road. Police informed.”

Andy backed up that view saying: “The traffic issues caused by the lights near the Ramada Hotel. These lights have been installed for no reason. I.e no work being carried out. Told they are there to improve traffic flow. LOL!”

There have been lots of accounts of journey time, and pictures of the traffic:

Sandra told us on Facebook: “I had an appointment at 9 at the hospital, I was 40 minutes late. And I ended up getting out of the taxi I was in as it would be quicker walking”

Amie said: “Absolute joke!!! Been sat on Ruthin road for 1 hour trying to get my little boy to school and he’s still not in school!”

Our phones melted this morning due to the number of tweets, here are a sample…

Although this map does not show the detail of the town centre streets it indicates the vast area of the problems:

One motorist has suggested that it would be easier to walk today than actually drive through Wrexham, while another has stated that a tortoise has just walked past their car.

It is thought some of the delays have been caused by a traffic lights near the Ramada along with the temporary closure of Watery Road.
